How Much Are Your Body Parts Worth

How Much Are Your Body Parts Worth
It always drives me nuts when people say that
cost an arm and a leg! - Like, do you even know how much an arm and a leg cost? Didnt
think so. Hey everyone, Laci Green here for a very morbid
DNews. Running a little short on cash? Well, youre probably vaguely aware that there
exists a black market for body parts. Combined with legal medical demand, these forces essentially
set the price of your body parts.

In theory, if you could harvest every organ and chemical
- your dead body could go for up to $45M. But Medical Transcription estimates that the
average price of a dead body is worth closer to $550,000, and its only a few key body
parts that drive up the price. The most expensive LEGAL part you can sell is your heart - it
goes for almost $1M legally. And they say you cant buy love...Too bad youll be
dead then.

Your liver goes for $557,000 legally, and kidneys go for $262,000 each in the US.
The reason why these particular organs are so expensive is because of widespread diabetes
and heart disease. Of course, on the black market - theyre much cheaper, sometimes
10% of the cost. As for the rest of your body parts, the price
pales in comparison. Your skin - a measly $10 an inch, your stomach - 500 bucks.

And
your eyes? Only $1500 each. I spend more on making my eyes see than theyre actually
worth! This whole black market thing is a real downer. .In more ways than one. The black market
for body parts cropped up in response to worldwide organ shortages.

In the US alone, there are
currently 123,000 people waiting for organs - 100,000 of those people are waiting for
kidneys! Meanwhile, there are only about 14,000 organs are donated per year, mostly from the
deceased. Every day, about 18 people die waiting for a transplant. Thats a big gap between
supply and demand - and so became the black market. The black markets organ exchange
is populated by organs from multiple sources - some are very poor living donors trying
to make some money.

Some are from prisoners (dead and alive), others from looted graves,
and another source is paying off morticians. The organ broker will pay the funeral home
to take the parts out of the body and then sew it up so nobody knows. Its pretty dark
stuff. While theres not much you can do about
crooked morticians, we can all help to undermine these crazy unethical practices by becoming
organ donors.

All it takes is putting yourself down as an organ donor for when you die, which
you can do at organdonor.Gov. Currently, a little under half of Americans are registered
as organ donors. Which is a shame because the organs save other peoples lives after
youre gone, and they also help scientists find cures for diseases. Thanks for watching DNews everyone, well
see you next time!.

Ellen's Biggest, Most Generous Giveaway Ever!

Ellen's Biggest, Most Generous Giveaway Ever!
There's an amazing school in Detroit
that's getting national attention right now. At Spain Elementary School in Detroit
many of the students are poor or homeless, but
that is not their only obstacle. Almost all of their technology does not
work, their entire roof is falling apart, their gym is completely shut down forcing
the students to take P.E in the hallways. Some of their students actually have to wear coats in the classroom
because there is no heat.

When I heard about this I
knew that I wanted to help. Jeannie is in Detroit. Let's check in with her. Jeannie, hi, Jeannie, who are you with? >> Hi, Ellen.

>> Hi. >> Ellen, I'm with the most amazing man, the principal of Spain Elementary School,
Mr. Alexander. Say hi to Ellen.

>> Hello, Ellen. Of all the people in the whole world,
I am the happiest principal on Earth. I love you, we love you, I love you again. >> Well, I love you back.

>> This is the best. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> I love you back. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> So listen principal Alexander you were
really good at keeping a secret. You were the only person who knows
we are there and we are doing this.

Your school is amazing. And we wanna go surprise them right now. Jeannie take us to the cafeteria. And we will surprise-
>> Okay here we go, let's go.

>> The students are in there. >> It's all off your shoulders. >> The staff, the teachers,
they are gonna be so surprised. >> Hello Spain Elementary.

>> [APPLAUSE]
>> Hi everybody. >> [APPLAUSE] >> Surprise!
>> [APPLAUSE] >> Hello, Spain Elementary. I wanted to surprise you. I love your school I
love what you stand for.

So, I just wanted to say hi. And I heard there's a teacher
there named Ellen Morgan. Where is Ellen Morgan? >> Where's Ellen? >> Aah! >> Hey, Ellen! >> So, you and the other teachers
don't have books for you students. What do you do because of that? Explain that to everyone.

>> Well, what we do, we make copies,
because they can't take them home. We make copies for our students, but that
gets pretty expensive, so we also have some of our parents volunteer, and
the parents will make copies for us. But we do whatever we need to do, we don't complain we just do
it because we love our babies. >> [APPLAUSE].

>> So amazing.
All right, is Kelly there also? >> Kelly get over here. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> [APPLAUSE] [LAUGH] >> So, Kelly, your students have to wear coats in
the class because it isn't warm enough. How do you teach in these conditions,
how do you do that? >> Well I make my focus about my students
being engaged, enthusiastic, and wanting to learn,
keeping smiles on their faces. We get up and move around when
we need to and their passion for learning increases my passion for
teaching.

>> Well, you know Lowe's,
the home improvement store, you know that? They wanna help you and for more than a
decade Lowe's has supported public schools through its Toolbox for Education program. Today they're gonna give
every single teacher and every staff member a $100 VISA gift card. >> [APPLAUSE] >> [APPLAUSE] >> Also, we know that you have one computer per class, and
just about all of them do not work, so Lowe's wants to give
you $50,000 in technology. >> [APPLAUSE] >> Also, we know your school needs a new roof, so Lowe's has volunteers
called Lowe's Heroes.

And these employees will come to your
school and give you hands-on assistance. You pick what ever you want them to fix, because they're gonna give you
$200,000 in materials and labor. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> [APPLAUSE] >> We just surprised Spain Elementary-Middle School
with $250,000 from Lowe's and we are gonna start a GoFundMe page. Go to our website if you wanna donate.

I hope everybody joins and
I hope everybody >> [APPLAUSE] >> I have one more surprise for you. And I had it here and
I don't know where it is. That's right. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> You are so great to take time to do this.

Because, really, he's so busy,
he's rehearsing, he's getting ready for a tour and it means so
much to you to help underprivileged kids. >> It does. >> I mean every time when you're on tour, I know you do things that
people don't even know about. >> Every show we give a dollar to Pencils
of Promise from each ticket sold.

And, yeah, we got some surprises for
these beautiful people as well. >> Yeah they're amazing,
these kids are amazing. So, Principal Alexander,
I know you're a performing arts school, but is it true you have, this is crazy. It's a performing arts school,
you have no money for music classes.

>> This is so true, Spain is one of
the finest performing arts schools in the city of Detroit, but because of
cutbacks, we don't have a violin teacher. We don't have an orchestra teacher. We don't have a drama teacher. But my teachers so willingly volunteer.

My special ed teacher, Miss Lockhart, she volunteers and teaches
our children dance on her free time. And Miss Johnson, she does the drama for
our students on their free time. So we are so proud of them to help
us out because we don't afford, we can't have any teachers at this time. >> We're so proud of them,
so proud of them.

>> I have a very talented
young man right here, who >> [APPLAUSE] >> I think that you have a gift for them right? >> We're actually gonna give a dollar for
every ticket to your school and. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> That's a lot of tickets. That's a big auditorium. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> So, that is a lot of money from Justin's
concert that he is gonna be in Michigan.

I still think you need more hep, our
friends at Lowe's agree, Lowe's wants to donate one more thing to you to provide
an even safer learning environment. They're gonna donate another
$250,000 to your school. All together that's
a half a million dollars. >> [APPLAUSE]
>> Amazing.

>> [APPLAUSE]
>> Half a million dollars. Thank you Lowe's, thank you so
much, we love you. Go to our website if you wanna help. Just anything, even a dollar,
anything you can do.

Go to our website to help them out. We'll be right back. Justin Bieber, everybody!.

Ellen Surprises a College Kid with a Big Heart

Ellen Surprises a College Kid with a Big Heart
- SO HERE'S AN AMAZING STORY
I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU. RECENTLY I FOUND OUT ABOUT
A COLLEGE STUDENT. NAMED FORD YATES, AND HE SKIPPED SPRING BREAK
TO DONATE BONE MARROW. TO A COMPLETE STRANGER.

ENDED UP SAVING THAT MAN'S LIFE, AND I WANTED TO REWARD HIM
WITH $10,000, BUT I THOUGHT HE SHOULD EARN IT. SO WE FLEW HIM... 'CAUSE HE HADN'T DONE ENOUGH. SO WE FLEW HIM AND HIS MOM,
LINDA, TO L.A., AND WE SENT ONE OF MY WRITERS,
ADAM, TO PICK HIM UP FROM THE HOTEL.

AND PRETENDED TO BE
THEIR DRIVER. AND, OH, BOY,
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED. - [Singing]
KEVIN, THE CAR DRIVER. PLAYED BY ADAM.

- THE YATES?
- YEAH. - HI. YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR BAGS
RIGHT HERE. YOU GUY'S BEEN TO L.A.

BEFORE? - SURE. - AND HOW LONG HAVE THE TWO
OF YOU BEEN SEEING EACH OTHER? [Laughter] - SINCE HE POPPED OUT
OF MY BELLY. - SMELLS OKAY BACK THERE, RIGHT? - YEAH.
- MM-HMM. IS THERE A REASON IT WOULDN'T? - NO, I PUT THIS STUFF
BACK THERE BEFOREHAND.

I JUST--
'CAUSE I... DID YOU WANT ANY WATER? - OH, I'M GOOD.
THANK YOU. - I WOULD LOVE A WATER.
SURE. - YOU KNOW WHAT?
JUST HOLD ON.

CAN YOU JUST... CAN YOU JUST SIGNAL OUT HERE? THE TURN SIGNAL ON THE BACK,
ON THE LEFT, DOESN'T WORK. SIGNAL FOR THIS GUY BEHIND ME? - WHAT? ARE WE STOPPING FOR-- - YEAH, WE'RE STOPPING
FOR A SECOND. YOU GUYS WANT ANYTHING?
- NO, I'M OKAY.

THANKS. - YOU?
- I'M GOOD. - BE RIGHT BACK. - WHAT IN THE WORLD? - OH...

- DO WE WANT TO CALL A CAB? THIS IS THE MOST
UNPROFESSIONAL... THING I'VE EVER SEEN. - IS THAT A CASE OF BEER? - DORITOS AND CORONA. GOT LUNCH THERE? - NO, I'M GOING TO...

I'M JUST GOING TO A PARTY
AFTER WORK. YOU GUYS WANT ANY DORITOS? - NO, I'M OKAY, THANK YOU. - WELL, DID YOU GUYS FINISH
THAT ONE? - OH, UH...
YEAH. NO.

- I THINK WE'RE GOOD.
THANK YOU. - I THINK WE'RE GOOD. - I CAN PUT ON THE RADIO HERE
IF YOU GUYS WANT. - SURE.

[Loud Middle Eastern music] - THERE SHE IS. - WHOA.
- WHO'S THAT? ELLEN? - ELLEN. - SHE DOES, LIKE,
THE DANCING STUFF, RIGHT? - YES.
- YEAH. - THANK YOU.
- SURE, I'LL LET YOU GUYS OUT.

JUST A SECOND.
JUST KEEP YOUR BAGS HERE. THAT ONE, RIGHT?
HERE'S THIS OTHER ONE. - THAT'S YOUR OTHER BAG. - WHAT'S THAT? I THINK THIS BAG'S YOURS.

ELLEN HEARD ABOUT WHAT YOU DID. I'M NOT ACTUALLY A DRIVER. I WORK FOR
THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW, AND SHE WANTED TO GIVE YOU GUYS
$10,000. - WHAT? - OH, MY GOD! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

OH, MY GOODNESS. WHAT IN THE WORLD? [Cheers and applause] - FORD AND HIS MOM, LINDA,
ARE IN THE AUDIENCE TODAY. OKAY, SO YOU WERE SO
INCREDIBLY PATIENT, AND WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? I MEAN, WE SAW WHAT YOU WERE
THINKING, BUT... - WELL, I THINK WE DECIDED
HE WAS A LITTLE OFF.

WHEN HE HAD ME PUT MY HAND
OUT THE WINDOW. - RIGHT, RIGHT.
YEAH. AND YOU DID IT. - AND WHEN HE STOPPED
AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE, WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT NEED
A PLAN.

- YEAH. - WE THOUGHT THAT
IF HE WALKED IN. AND STARTED DRINKING BEER
IN THE CAR, WE WOULD PUT HIM IN THE BACK
WITH MY MOM. AND THEN I WOULD START DRIVING
TO THE STUDIO.

- EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T LIVE
HERE AND KNOW WHERE TO GO. - NO CLUE WHERE TO GO. - NEITHER DID HE. HE WAS GOING IN CIRCLES
FOR A WHILE.

WELL, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY
ABOUT ANYTHING. I MEAN, ADAM, HE DOESN'T DRINK
IN THE CAR; HE DRINKS AT THE OFFICE,
BUT NOT IN THE CAR, SO... THANK Y'ALL FOR BEING HERE,
AND YOU'RE AN AMAZING GUY, FORD. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
THANK YOU.

[Cheers and applause].
